Sculpture in plaster
In 2015 Tony experimented with this project in plaster.
While throwing out some trash, he spotted an almost destroyed hound sculpture lying in the bottom of a dumpster.
He took pity on the destroyed image and climbed in to retrieve it. He decided he needed to be restored; to be recreated and enjoyed by others. His fractured and shattered structure was destroyed to an almost indecipherable point. He'd thought that he could be re-plastered and this resulted in "La Bella Luna" a riff he used from an old movie..
Producing various sculptural projects that were of interest is the driving force behind Tonys creations. Creating sculpture by combining many elements—especially found objects—into a complete work of art is where he excels.
Tony said when creating "La Bella Luna“ I did not realize how ethereal the process of sculpting in plaster was. I wanted to add life to this sculpture and this is why he sitting while howling up at "the beautiful moon". His body is gessoed, perhaps one day he could get a few spots placed on this body.
The internal structure was created with chicken wire and metal to form the basic shape and to hold the structure together. Building and shaping the body was a mind to hand experience.
