RESIDENTIAL

2008

  Hermosa Beach

This was our second project for this client, and we had fun working on this home with this fantastic client.  Fantastic in that he understands good design and was not afraid to explore new design ideas and concepts for this home.

This home was a new acquisition and we did not want the existing mausoleum like décor with its all white marble interior to play any part in the new design.  So the marble was the first thing that had to go.  Not only did it leave the place feeling cold and austere it posed a serious slip hazard.  However we felt the juxtaposition of the marble columns that transition the split levels brought linear height and interest to the high/low living space.

On this project it was important to express the client’s personality and his taste.  Additionally this home is very close to the Pacific     Ocean so we wanted the fresh ions of the ocean and colors to transition freely into the open spaces; this was accomplished with grand seascapes on the westerly facing views.

Additionally the client is a writer and philosopher.  He enjoys solitude and meditation, these were key features we had to consider for bringing tranquility and peace to this home.  Being environmentally conscience was another strong factor for consideration in the design.  We wanted to use sustainable materials such as bamboo and we had a keen desire to keep the areas uncrowded and open and the lines long and horizontal.  San Francisco Bay Area Interior Designer
