To The Trade Workroom

THE PROCESS
WE ARE here to provide you as the designer a complete upholstery workroom for all of your clients needs.

WE DESIGN "WITH YOU" or "FOR YOU". No job is too small and we'll tell when it is too large.  The design process begins with a thought, it is our job to turn those thoughts into a reality.  The process can be colaborative or you may have been noodling a furniture design idea around for a while and did not know where to turn to.  If you have been wanting to bring your idea to fruition, no need to look any further, we take prototyping your ideas as an everyday occurance, we are here just to steer the ship in the right direction.

CON·CEP·TU·AL·IZE

kənˈsep(t)SH(əw)əˌlīz/

verb meaning:

To form a concept or idea of (someting) .

"we can more easily conceptualize the product from a drawing"

The furniture making process begins with a concept or an idea, the process continues with a consultation and discussion of your clients’ needs.  The example given here was for 6 dining room chairs.  Form then follows function.  After considering basic form or sizing for the human body we consider how the chair is to look aesthetically. We are now equipped to create your concept into a CAD line drawing necessary for creating the the frame, the first step in the upholstery process.

C.A.D Drawings

In this example we took a clients thoughts the simple line drawing or sketch on paper and we transfer that into a working CAD drawing for your approval and then off to the frame maker for a quotation.

You will notice that we tweaked the lines a bit to humanize the proportions and arrived at this final result.  Certain measurements for dining seating are critical for comfort.

Some of the standard rules of size applied to this set of chairs.

For example; a seat height of 19" was the first step for consideration.  This average seat height provides comfortable seating for most diners even over an extended period of hours.

The chairs back height was determined so that the client could sit upright in the chair while providing good back support.

The chair seat width, depth and height was the next matter to consider.  The clients table was 80" long and she wanted to sit six comfortably around the table.

The inside back pitch was then taken into consideration designing this chair. 3 inches of inside pitch or 15° pitch over 14.50" high was perfect.

There was a special need for the clients back to nestle properly into the chair, so we added this slight outward curve for extended sitting comfort.

After all of these matters were decided the client could sign off on the design and these chairs are ready to be manufactured.

Fit & Finish

We work in close partnership with the frame creator.  Each detail is gone over for consideration before the frame making process begins. Before a single piece of wood is cut the proper timbers are chosen, wood free of defects and without warping, splitting, excessive knotting, or other obvious defects that could weaken the integral structure of the furniture frame.

Once the frame is received the exposed wood color is reviewed

with the finishing department.  Considering the ever changing environmental laws, we still strive to provide all of the modern colors, treatments and techniques while adhering to the States strict guidelines and regulations.
